Maximize your brand session to its fullest.

When considering locations, think about places that will allow you to create as many stories as possible.

My favorite shoots usually happen within a 5 block radius in a fun part of town. You should also carefully consider what outfits you want to wear in each scene and choose either a variety of outfits or a versatile look that you can change up quickly and that allows for as much variety as possible.

Something else to consider is to add videography to your session to create a brand video using the same locations and wardrobe as your photography to create consistent, recognizable imagery.

Select a variety of images from your personal branding session

Consider what type of shots are the best for each medium you plan to use to showcase your images. For instance, wide shots are great for ads that require space for copy and can be cropped in for use on the web. Medium range shots work great on social media, where you want the image to still tell a story or include the scene.

Social media often has strict sizing parameters for images, so it’s important to think about what type of shot will work best for which platform. For example, medium-range shots of landscape images look good when cropped at a 4x5 ratio, which is the widest shot allowed on Instagram.

Close-up images like portraits that evoke emotion are great on many content platforms and allow for more personalized content including social media, email content, web content, and, of course, headshots.

Put your branding images where you will use them

Download your images from your photographer immediately and upload the web versions to any design platforms or shared folders used by your business. Having content that’s easy to access will also make it easy to use. You can also ask your photographer if they offer custom gallery apps, which allow you to keep your web-ready gallery on your home screen to download the images as needed. This option allows you to free up space on your phone and select the right image for the job at the touch of a button.

Keep your catalog fresh with quarterly or as-needed branding mini-sessions

Having regular mini-sessions with your personal branding photographer will allow you to shoot for specific campaigns and give you more opportunities to bring your advertising concepts to life on an as-needed basis. Depending on your company’s vision, this could include anything from seasonal or holiday sessions, which are great for social media marketing and can be used to create evergreen photo content like a styled stock that you can use again next year, to imagery for larger content strategies and launches that can be done separately from your core brand photography and can be customized to fit the needs of a particular launch.

Put your personal branding images everywhere
